Kobe jumps over a pool of snakes?   Really?

This video clip is taken from an episode of the TV show Jackass. Rather than reading what I have to say about it, you should just go straight to the source: Frank Noshese's Kobe, Karplus, and Inquiry, which showed me that I'd been doing it wrong all those years! Don't miss the follow-up post: Lesson Progression: Projectile Motion.

This video plays at 24 fps, the same speed at which it was originally recorded. I have removed the duplicate frames, but only in the key shot where students will take data, which explains why the rest of the video seems weirdly slow. The clip has no sound because correcting the audio for the change in frame rate is beyond what I know how to do. When you first introduce your students to this problem, don't show them this version! Use one of the many versions (with sound) available on YouTube. Here are links to two of them:

Short version (0:34)

Long version (1:34)
